MBC board members’ salaries on request: State Finance Minis

MALE, October 12 (HNS) – Salaries of Maldives Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) Directors Board members will be arranged on request, Finance Ministry said Tuesday.

State Finance Minister Ahmed Assad said the parliament-assigned MBC board members were not given since July 12 as no request has been made so far.

“State employees are given salaries when the employer requests it. For example, civil servants are given their salaries when Civil Service Commission (CSC) requests it. Independent bodies are given salaries when the designated authority requests it. In the same manner we will give salaries to MBC board members when it is requested,” he said.

Parliamentary finance committee Monday requested the ministry to arrange salaries for the nine MBC board members. However, the State Minister denied having knowledge of the request.

The parliament passed Rf10,000 as the Chairman’s salary, Rf9,000 as Vice Chairman’s salary and Rf8,000 as other members’ salary.
