　　根據(jù)美聯(lián)社2004年9月7日公布的最新統(tǒng)計(jì)，由于當(dāng)天又有7名美軍士兵在同伊拉克遜尼派和什葉派武裝發(fā)生的激戰(zhàn)中死亡，美軍自伊拉克戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)爆發(fā)以來(lái)在伊死亡的人數(shù)已突破1000人。其中998人是美軍士兵，3人是五角大樓的文職人員。美國(guó)白宮發(fā)言人麥克萊倫同日也證實(shí)，美軍在伊死亡人數(shù)達(dá)到1000人。

　　U.S. military deaths in the Iraq campaign passed the 1,000 milestone Tuesday, with more than 800 of them during the stubborn insurgency that flared after the Americans brought down Saddam Hussein and President Bush declared major combat over.

　　Milestone的意思是“里程碑、 里程標(biāo)、重要事件、轉(zhuǎn)折點(diǎn)”。例如：The invention of the computer was a milestone in the history of man.（計(jì)算機(jī)的發(fā)明是人類(lèi)歷史上的一件大事）。
